Rinpoche's advice on the discussion
- Relate to the essentials, one's priorities not the details.
- In dialogue, Rinpoche suggests there could be a questioner, an answerer
and an observer.
- Dialogue is not a competition - we are sharing so that everyone deepens
their knowledge and ability to apply the Dharma to their lives.
- After clarification of the topic, the dyad works together to "check
the validity of the topic out", maybe then mixing their knowledge and experience
with their mind stream.
- The questioner helps by deepening the contemplation of the topic,
gentle probing, opening the discussion when answers get "pat" or stuck;
also, by encouraging examples, applicability to one's life or by asking
for divisions or amplification of the topic, and finally helping the answerer
to stick to the topic.
