     History

Tashi Choling Mahayana Buddhist Society was established in 1980 as a non-profit society under the guidance of the Venerable Zasep Tulku Rinpoche, the society’s founding Lama (teacher).

Since that time,  the Tashi Choling Society has sponsored seminars, courses, retreats and visits by eminent teachers and artists from around the world.  Among these have  been several highly respected Buddhist teachers such as Achaan Maha Ghosananda (presently Head of  Theravadin Budhhism in Cambodia), Tara Tulku Rinpoche, Lati Rinpoche, His Holiness Khalka Jetsun Dhampa, Sayadaw U Thila Wunta, Jetsunma Kusho and Dhyani Ywahoo.

In addition, Tashi Choling has sponsored cultural performances by the monasteries of Drepung Loseling, Sera Je and Ganden, as well as the Tibetan Folk Opera Company Chaksampa.  Other artists sponsored by the Society have included the musician Ngawang Khechog, Thangka painter Pema Wangyal, photographer Galen Rowell, writer/ anthropologist Peter Gold and meditation master/Tibetan astrologer Jhampa Shaneman.

Through sponsoring these various teachers and events, the society has provided the people of the inland northwest with many opportunities to experience both the religious and cultural traditions of Tibetan Buddhism.
